7 Tips for Wedding Photographers

Personalized Shot checklist

This is One of the most helpful tips about Wedding Photography, is to get the couple to think ahead about the shots that they’d like you to capture on the day and compile a list so that you can check them off.

Consider all backups

Wedding photographers need backups of their gear – you should already know this. Second-cameras, flashes, memory cards – this is all standard in the industry.

Family Photo Helper

Family photo part in Desi weddings can be quite stressful. People are going everywhere, you’re unaware of the different family dynamics. Get the couple to nominate a family member who can be the ‘director’ of the family shoot.

Shoot the small details

Photograph rings, backs of dresses, shoes, flowers, table settings, stage etc - these help give the end album an extra dimension. Get some ideas by looking at other photographers work.

Consider a Second Wedding Photographer

Having a second backup photographer can be a great strategy. One will capture formal shots and the other to get candid shots. It also takes a little pressure off you being ‘the one’ to have to get every shot!

Figure out the lighting situation beforehand

If possible, visit the venue a few days before, around the same time as the actual wedding, so you can see what kind of lighting situation you will be working with. Walk through the entire venue and take note of what kind of lighting you will get in each spot, whether indoors or outdoors. This will allow you to properly prepare for it and figure out what kind of lighting equipment and accessories you may need to bring.

Stay Alert and be ready for anything

Be aware of what’s happening and be prepared to whip out your camera in an instant. When you’re a wedding photographer, there’s really no time to relax.
